£475.00 Approx $629.14, €558.82

A good and completely untouched example of the regulation Infantry officers sword of the Napoleonic Wars.

The 1796 pattern gilt brass hilt with decorated urn pommel and quillion, and faceted knucklebow with an impressive amount of the original fire gilt finish remaining. The folding shell guard is fully functional, and has plenty of "snap" left in the spring. The copper twist wrapped grip in excellent condition.

The 31.5 inch single fullered blade, culminating in a spear point. The first third of the blade is engraved with decoration to both sides, featuring floral swags and crowned GR coat of arms. The blade now has a slightly dark plum coloured patina for its entire length with good amounts of the original blue and gilt finish are visible.

There is no visible makers name.

No movement between blade and hilt, although the ferrule at the bottom of the grip does "wiggle".

A good entry level Napoleonic blue and gilt officers sword, which would improve greatly with some careful cleaning, although it would also display well "as is".
