Code: 12431
An untouched example of a 1796 Light cavalry troopers sword.
Stirrup D guard with slot for a sword knot, shield shaped langets and large "ears". The leather covering in good condition.
This example with a plain 32.75 inch single fullered curved fighting blade. Maker marked to the spine "Dawes, B'ham". No visible inspection marking to the blade, although there is a marking on the backstrap.
Largely untouched condition overall, with some old corrosion and areas of light rust. There is movement at the grip ferrule, but the hilt and blade are solid. Signs of service sharpening and contact marks to the blade, which is no longer perfectly straight, but it is not obvious.
No scabbard.
Overall a good fresh to the market example, with room for improvement.
