1798 Pattern Scottish Broad Sword

Code: 12510

£1,495.00 Approx $1980.13, €1758.82

A very interesting and unusual sword, being slightly smaller than the previous regulation examples of this pattern I have owned previously, the blade measures 28 inches in length.

Two theories:

One, that it was produced for a younger junior officer of a more diminutive stature, perhaps a young Ensign.

Two: That it is infact a band sword, which Robson states for Highlnd regiments were to be of the same pattern as the officers.

This example carries no visible markings which I have been able to find.

Regulation brass 1798 pattern basket, which retains the remains of its rather battered crimson liner. The grip is of worn leather bound in twistwire. The fluted conical pommel is secured with a flattened dome nut. Some deformation of shape, but no visible breaks, as far as I can see.

The double edged blade is plain, with single central fuller, which culminates in a spear point.

Housed in a brass scabbard with twin hanging rings, and the correct highland ball drag.

A very unusual broadsword, certainly the only one like this I have ever encountered.
