A good Victorian Infantry Officers Sword.
This example retailed by "H.Hill 3 Old Bond Street, London" and marked as such at the ricasso. Henry Hill had a premises in Bond Street from 1847, until 1865 when he retired to Brighton, although by that oint the firm had become Hill Brothers, so I would date this example to the early/mid 1850's.
Hilt of brass with VR cypher. No serious deformation. Working folding guard with good spring. A good amount of original gilt wash remaining. Shagreen grips complete and in good condition, and bound with copper wire. Hilt tight on the blade with no movement.
32.75 inch blade etched with standard floral engraving, and crowned VR cypher. Centre of percussion marking to the spine.
Housed in a brass scabbard for officers of field rank and above. Twin hanging rings, with minor dents to either side, but no splits. An old collectors label and collecton number to one side (easily removed if desired).
