1822 Pattern William IV Pipe Back Infantry Officers Sword
A good example of a this quite scarce infantry officers sword, made during the reign of William IV (1830-37)
It has the regulation 1822 gilt brass hilt with folding guard, back strap and stepped pommel. The twistwire bound shagreen grips, are in good condition,
The hilt has no serious dings, dents nor deformation, but does have a small crack at 6 O'clock at the royal cypher. The folding guard retains its sping, and is in good functional condition.
The 31.5 inch pipeback blade retains traces of its etched decoration, of crown and foliage, although this is now quite faint. I can see no makers details. The blade terminates in a quill point. The blade and point have been service sharpened, with some old scattered pittings its entire length.
The sword is housed in it's period steel scabbard with twin hanging rings. Even pitting along its length, but in good solid condition.
