SOLD

A fine 1831 Pattern General Officers Mameluke Sword.

This Edwardian example has the huge bonus of having a type of synthetic ivorine grip, and can therefore be exported without the need for certification.

The regulation gilt brass hilt, with slab ivorine type grip scales, fixed with rosettes. The crossguard, bearing the general officers badge, mounted within a wreath, and terminating with ball finials. It has tang engraving, which follows down to the top of the guard, which I think is a first in my experience.

The curved single-edged blade measuring 31.5 inches, culminating in a double edged yelman towards the point. The finely etched blade without a makers or retailers name,  proof slug under the langet offers no clues. The blade is well decorated with two vacant panels, foliate etching, including swags of laurel, crowned 'ERVII' cypher and crossed sword and baton motif. No movement between blade and hilt.

Housed in it's original all steel scabbard with twin hanging rings.

Some minor staining and rubbing to the blade which could be improved, and likely removed altogether if desired. The ivorine type grip with some minor scratches, some light bruises consurmerate with carry/use, and some minor "gapping". The scabbard is generally bright and clean, with some light marks, but no dents.

Certainly one of the better 1831 Patterns I have owned, and you will be looking for a long time to find a better example.
