1831 Pattern Victorian General Officers Mameluke Sword

1831 Pattern Victorian General Officers Mameluke Sword

Code: 11392

SOLD

A very fine and scarce 1831 Pattern General Officers Mameluke Sword.

This exceptional example, was produced and retailed by "Louis Holbeck, Manufacturer, 4 New Bond Street, London". This gives us a dating window of circa 1850-55, as Holbeck seems to have ceased trading at this address by 1855.

The regulation gilt brass hilt, with slab ivory grip scales, fixed with rosettes. The crossguard, bearing the general officers badge, mounted within a wreath, and terminating with ball finials.

***Please note, Due to the composition of the hilt, this sword cannot be shipped outside of the UK.***

The curved single-edged blade measuring 30.5 inches, culminating in a double edged yelman towards the point. The finely etched blade bearing the makers name and address at the ricasso, and bearing his initials in of "L.H." within the proof slug.  The foliate etching, including swags of laurel, crowned 'VR' cypher and crossed sword and baton motif.

Housed in it's seldom seen original black leather scabbard with fire gilded brass mounts, with laurel and acorn banding, The top mount bearing a tablet with the makers details. Twin hanging rings.

Some minor staining to the blade which could be improved, and likely removed altogether. Minor scuffs to the scabbard. Probably the finest 1831 Pattern I have owned, and you will be looking for a long time to find a better example.

***Please note, Due to the composition of the hilt, this sword cannot be shipped outside of the UK.***
