1895 Pattern Gloucestershire Regiment Officers Sword

Sold by the Wilkinson Sword Company on 14 January 1896 to a Captain Bishop, of the 2nd Gloster Regiment.

The sword of Major John David Jones Bishop, Gloucestershire Regiment.

Served in the South African War, conducting Operations in natal and at the Relief of Ladysmith 1899/1900 (QSA 4 Clasps.)

Major J.D.J. Bishop commanded the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment from March to April 1900.

Post war he served with the 1st Volunteer battalion until retiring in 1908. He served with the Labour Corps during WW1.

32 inch single fullered blade, stained overall but with everything still legible, including the original owners crest and initials.

1895 pattern hilt marked "Steel hilt" and bearing the crowned VR crest.

An excellent and relatively hard to find sword, which saw combat during the Boer War.

Accompanied by a copy of the Wilkinson Sword ledger for this sword.
