A very good Victorian 1895 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.
This example produced by Robert Mole, Maker to the War and India Offices. At this point Mole was second only to Wilkinson for producing quality swords, and some, including me, prefer Mole's etching to that of the larger company.
This short lived pattern can be comfortably dated to an 18 month window between 1895-97.
The regulation 1895 pattern steel guard with crowned VR cypher, domed pommel and fully chequered backpiece. The shagreen grip is fully complete, and in very good order, retaining all of the original twistwire binding.
The single fullered 1892 pattern blade measures 32.5 inches. Along with the Mole address and proof slug, The blade has two vacant panels, and is fully etched including the crowned VR cypher, and Royal coat of arms, as well as the usual floral etching.
Housed in its original steel mounted brown leather field scabbard which comes in equally good order. Some minor scuffs to the leather, which would benefit from a polish.
Overall condition is particuarly fine, especially the blade, which retains a good amount of original polish, along with minor light staining. An example you would struggle to better.
Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
