An unusual 1895 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.

This example has been fitted with a replacement George V period 1892 pattern blade by Wilkinson Sword at some point during its service life. Quite why the officer who owned it chose a new blade, rather than just buying a new sword is open to speculation.

Orginarily this short lived hilt pattern can be comfortably dated to an 18 month window between 1895-97. However the owner obviously went on to serve during the WW1 era.

The regulation 1895 pattern steel guard with crowned VR cypher, domed pommel and fully chequered backpiece. The shagreen grip is fully complete, and in very good order, retaining all of the original twistwire binding. Some loss to the plated finish.

The single fullered 1892 pattern blade measures 32.5 inches. Along with the Wilkinson address and proof slug, The blade has two vacant panels, and is fully etched including the crowned GV cypher, and Royal coat of arms, as well as the usual floral etching.

Unusually there is no proof number, perhaps another sign that the original blade was broken, and Wilkinson replaced it?

Housed in its original steel dressscabbard which comes in solid order. Some loss of plating and rust bloom.

Overall condition is good/as found. It will benefit greatly from a gentle clean, tidy, and polish to bring it up to a good collectors standard.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
