The regulation 35 inch single fullered blade, which is dated for February 1915, along with various other inspection markings to both ricasso's, and the pattern designation"P'08" to the spine, although this is now well obscured.
The bowl guard has recieved some blows around the diamond reinforcing plate, and this area is slightly misshapen.
The regulation steel scabbard with twin fixed rings also carries various inspection markings, with a production date of 1915.
Both bowl guard and scabbard carry matching unit markings of "19. 20H. 12." The bowl also carries the issue date of "4/15" for April 1915.
The hilt and scabbard with matching and even patina. The pommel, guard and grip still tight. The usual light pitting to the interior of the bowl guard. The blade has recieved some blows around the ricasso area, which corresponds to the blows mentioned on the reinforcing plate.
Very rare to find a 1908 pattern troopers sword which is both unit marked, and still with its original, matching scabbard.
The 20th had a very busy war, and are well worth further research in the part they played.
