An early1908 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword By Robert Mole.
This Mk1 example has serrations for the buff leather washer but not drilled for the washer pin. The blade, scabbard and bowl are marked for "Mole".
The regulation 35 inch single fullered blade, which is dated for March 1910, along with various other inspection markings to both ricasso's, and the pattern designation"P'08" to the spine.
The bowl guard has recieved some blows, and is slightly misshapen, around the sword knot hole. The pommel nut also looks to have been damaged at some point, as it is no longer "domed" as one would expect, but all tight, with no movement.
The regulation steel scabbard with twin fixed rings also carries various inspection markings, with a date of 1916. Signs of old camo paint around the rings and mouthpiece.
In very much "as found" condition, the blade service sharpened, with light, even pitting. The hilt and scabbard with matching and even patina, various dings/dents and a slight bend, but it hasn't effected the blade, which is still straight. The pommel, guard and grip still tight. The usual pitting to the interior of the bowl guard. Whilst by no means a perfect example, it remains a good untouched pre WW1 cavalry sword with room for improvement.
