A good 1912 Pattern Cavalry Officers Sword of the 13th Hussars.

The sword with the large regulation large bowl guard of steel and well decorated, with areas of light pitting and loss to the original plating, although generally bright in appearance. The interior is discoloured, and would benefit from a clean. Distinctive chequered pommel with lower stepped section with laurel wreath decoration. The guard slightly crushed/bent and now gently curves inwards.

The shagreen grip with some areas of loss and wear, as might be expected, but is in generally good condition overall, and is bound with twistwire.

The single fullered blade bears a retailers marking at the ricasso, slightly indistinct, but looks like "Winter&Co, Military Outfitter, 39 Conduit St, London". The opposite ricasso displays the proof slug, featuring the letter "A".

The blade is well decorated with floral etching, vacant panels, George V crowned cypher, royal coat of arms, and carries the regimental crest of the 13th Hussars.

The blade is generally bright, and the etching is largely crisp and easily visible, with some areas of light staining. It has a slight bend, which could be corrected if desired. It occurs to me that taking into account the condition of the guard, and the bend to the blade, that the original owner may well have been unhorsed whilst his sword was drawn.

Housed in its original brown leather field service scabbard. Generally good condition, with some wear to the retaining strap.

A faint name in black ink to the underside of the retaining strap, which with some wax looks like "J.A. Lord".  Worthy of some investigative research.

Regimentally marked 1912 pattern cavalry officers swords are getting harder to find, this is an excellent opportunity to acquire an untouched original.
