A very interesting and attractive short hanger or cuttoe, in the hunting style, made for a serving British Officer.

This type of sword was popular during the latter half of the 18thc, and are noted as being widely carried during the American Revolutionalry War. George Washington favoured a hunting sword as his sidearm. 

This example with shagreen bound grips, brass D guard with decoration, a swollen half moon langet and pommel cap, all of brass and decorated with hunting scenes. The quillion of the same material and although off centre, still present and correct.

The blade measuring 23.5 inches, having a single shallow fuller towards the middle and another along the spine. Both sides of the blade are etched "London" below the pre 1801 coat of arms. The blades point is sharpened for six inches up the back edge.

Overall condition is very good, untouched and ready for some gentle cleaning.

No scabbard.
