A very attractive Georgian 1803 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.

This is an extremely good example of the most attractive of Napoleonic era swords.

The scabbard's upper mount is engraved with the makers details "Pitter, Bedford St, London". John Pitter was in business here from 1801 to 1805, making this a scarce and early example of the pattern.

The pommel formed as a lions head with the mane flowing into a faceted backpiece, is holding the stirrup guard in its mouth. A high proportion of the original gilt wash remaining to the entire hilt. The guard is decorated with a crowned GR, sitting above the slotted hilt. The grip is covered in ray skin, and bound with twistwire, which is complete and in very good condition. There is no movement between hilt and blade.

The remains of the original  crimson and gold sword knot are still fixed to the sword knot ring beneath the lion.

The Curved single fullered blade measures 31.5 inches, and is engraved on both sides with foliate detail, triumphal regalia, and the crowned GR cypher. The other side featuring further decorative swags, the royal arms, with motto "Honi soit qui mal y pense".

The blade, retains a good amount of its blue and gilt, only the latter remains clearly visible. The blade still has areas of its original mirror polish beneath the blue and gilt decoration along with some areas staining and corrosion. Areas of the cutting edge have some small chips/edge knocks, and the blade retains a sharpened edge.

Housed in its original leather scabbard with fire gilt brass mounts, and twin hanging rings. The top mount with makers details and frog button decorated as the Union flag. A small area of old repair to the rear of the scabbard, but generally very good indeed.

A good untouched sword, which displays very well, and will be difficult to upgrade.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
