SOLD

A Good Wilkinson 1822/45 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword, dating to April 1883.

The guard of 'solid' 1822 pattern, without folding guard. Of typical brass construction in the gothic style, which is in very good condition. Crowned VR cypher within a cartouche. Shagreen grip bound with twistwire in good overall condition, but quite dark in appearance, perhaps covered in a protective coating. The sword is solid in the hilt.

The 33 inch 1845 pattern single fullered blade is marked at the ricasso with the retailers details "Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London". The proof slug with "H.W." and serial number to the spine.

The blade is decorated with the standard foliate etching, and crowned VR cypher to both sides of the blade. There is some staining, and the blade is now a little dull, and would benefit from a polish to bring the decoration, althout this is still clear and legible. Areas of old corrosion and pitting to one side, and towards the blades point. Signs of service sharpening.

Housed in an associated steel dress scabbard with twin suspension rings. It retains its original plated finish, and its largely bright, with some small areas of light rust, and some loss, mainly on the seam and shoe. It is free from major dings, dents or splits, although it would also benefit from a clean and polish.

Overall condition is good, not having been in a collection previously, and is completely untouched. Once tidied it will be a very good example.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
