A Scarce and early Royal Company of Archers "Gentleman's" short sword.
This fine quality Ceremonial Sword of the Royal Company Of Archers, which has served as the Sovereign's Bodyguard in Scotland, since 1822. This example very likely dating to the inception of the Corps.
The 16 inch broadsword blade is plain, with elongated ricasso, and long central fuller, terminating towards the needle point
The hilt of brass embossed with scrolls, with integral crossguard, further etched with scrolls, and ball finials.
Housed in its correct black leather scabbard with brass mounts, the top mount with frog stud, and ball finial to the drag.
Overall in very good condition, some minor staining to the blade, which shows signs of service sharpening, another indication that this sword is an early example, dating to when the sword may have actually have been used for its intended puropse, protecting the Monarch!
Not an easy pattern to find, such early examples are seldom encountered on the open market.
