A very good Piso Podang, the sword of the Batak people of Sumatra, this one dating to the 19thC.
The sword has an engraved brass hilt, with bowl shaped pommel, and distinctive quillions, being of similar form to the tulwar, and likely influenced through contact with Indian merchants encountered through trade.
The unfullered blade, measuring 22 inches long, with a distinctive clipped point has been well honed, and is in good condtion, with some old grease remaining, free from serious rust or pitting.
27 inches overall, without the scabbard.
The wooden scabbard is mounted with several white metal fittings, beautifully chased with floral decorations, likely by immigrant Chinese silversmiths. I can find no makers markings to sword or scabbard.
