A good example of a Victorian Scottish Cross Hilt Officers Broadsword to the Highland Light Infantry.
Shagreen grip, silver twistwire binding complete and in very good condition. Heavy pommel with protruding securing nut, with hole for a T Bar to facilitate the swapping of crossguard for full dress basket hilt. The cross guard with langets.
The twin fullered ricasso marked "J.Henderson&Co, 14 West Nile Street, Glasgow". The blade twin fullered and frost etched with typical Scottish thistle and foliate engraving, crowned VR Cypher, with the regimental Elephant, battle honour "ASSAYE" within a scroll, and the light infantry bugle motif, encompassing the letters "HLI".
The blade has been service sharpened, and shows wear, and some dark staining. Etching very clear, and overall a very pleasing example.
Blade length 32.75 inches.
Housed in its original steel mounted leather field service scabbard with correct ball finial, comple with belt frog.
Strictly over 18's only.
