An 1821 Pattern Cavalry Officers Sword of the Central India Horse.
This example was retailed by "John Jones & Co, 6 Regent St, Pall Mall, London."
John Jones & Co operated as a Cutler using this name and address from 1894-1912. He is known to have supplied swords made by Pillin, and the proof slug on this example bears a "P" which would confirm this, along with the four digit serial number to the spine.
The hilt of 1821 Pattern, steel, three bar hilt with fully chequered pommel and backpiece. The grips bound in shagreen and twistwire with no loss, but some light service wear. The hilt retaining its original brown leather sword knot.
The blade of straight 1845 pattern, is largely clean and bright, with some areas of light rust, staining and light pitting towards the blades point. The blade decorated with foliate engraving and a central etched panel with the regiments name "Central India Horse" and Royal "ERI" cypher for King Edward VII Imperator.
Housed in its original Sam Brown field service leather scabbard. The scabbard, with some minor scuff/marks appears to have suffered a break, or at least partial break, around eight inches from the drag, which has been repaired, and is now stable. The sword sheaths as it should, and is a tight fit. It would benefit from a good clean,feed/polish, which would help disguise the damaged area.
A good example of a seldom encountered Indian Cavalry Sword.
