An Elizabeth II Scottish Field Officers Broadsword.
The sword, produced by WIlkinson of Pall Mall is in good untouched condition, being fitted with the scarce scroll hilted acanthus basket guard of 1857 Pattern, with domed pommel and fully chequered backpiece. This example was made specifically as a field officers sword, so is not interchangable with a cross hilt or basket.
The grip of rayskin bound with twistwire. The grip is in very good condition overall, with some light service wear. The plated guard, pommel and backpiece with some loss of finish. No movement between blade and hilt.
The polished steel broadsword blade measures 32.75 inches, and is in overall very good condition, with Wilkinson makers details and proof marking to either ricasso. Twin fullers at the ricasso with a long central fuller to the main blade. It carries a vacant cartouche, and is further decorated with thistle and floral decoration. Some light areas of staining which could be improved upon.
It carries no visible serial number, although it does have some light file marks where this may have once been.
Housed in the correct steel mounted brown leather field scabbard with ball drag.
A very good example, of a suprisingly difficult sword to find.
