A very good Black Watch Officers Broadsword.
This example by Wilkinson of London.
The hilt is an 1828 pattern steel crossguard of Black Watch pattern, with domed cruxiform pommel, which can be removed for addition of the full basket hilt. Good overall condition, with some loss to the plated finish. The shagreen grip bound with copper twistwire, and in good condition.
The blade, with Wilkinson's details to the ricasso, along with thier "best quality" hexagonal proof slug. One cartouche containing the initials "A.V. McI.C." and further decorated with the emblems of Scotland, thistles, and foliage. The Regimental badge of the Black Watch, Royal Highlanders, and the Cypher of King George V. Some light staining, but generally bright.
Housed in its brown leather field service leather scabbard with steel mounts, which is in very good condition, with some minor scuffs. Fitted with its Sam Browne Leather Frog.
The sword of Captain Aylmer Vivian MacIver-Campbell, 2nd Battalion, Black Watch.
He was killed on the 21st of November 1941, during the Battle for Tobruk. I've not had a chance for further research, so this I shall leave up to the new owner.
