Code: 12504
A British 1845 Pattern Royal Navy Cutlass.
This example is well used and seems to have been used as a training cutlass.
The slightly curved, unfullered, blade measures 26 inches, and has a rounded point. Traces of makers and other markings to both ricasso's, contact marks to the service sharpened edge, and signs of cleaning.
I am as sure as I can be that the makers mark is for "R&W Aston" of Birmingham.
The black painted steel bowl is slightly misshapen, consistent with training use, no movement between blade and hilt.
This example bearing a brass elongated diamond plaque to the front of the bowl guard, bearing the rack number.
Untouched condition overall, and could be improved if desired.
