Early numbered Wilkinson Artillery Officers Sword

Early numbered Wilkinson Artillery Officers Sword

Code: 11321

SOLD

A Wilkinson Sword Company Royal Artillery officers sword, dating to 1854.

This sword is numbered 5006. Numbering commenced in 1854 at 5001, so this is a rare early numbered sword, and is perfect for a collection of Crimea or Indian Mutiny sword. Interestingly, the proof ledger record for this sword, a digital copy of which can be made available to the new owner, actually records this sword as predating the serial number system, dating to "January 1853", and is recorded as being one of a batch of four Royal Artillery swords made for stock.

This is a serious fighting sword, with a brightly polished blade of 35.5 inches which hase been service sharpened. Some minor edge nicks. Good clear etching with Wilkinson address and proof slug to either ricasso. Fully etched blade with VR cypher to one side, and "Royal Artillery" with feathered lighting bolts to the other. Centre of percussion marking to the spine.

The regulation three bar guard with stepped pommel and half chequered back piece. Shagreen grip with silver twistwire binding. Blade solid in the hilt, no movement.

Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings.

A real honey of a sword, and pretty much everything a serious Wilkinson collector could ask for.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
