An early example of a Victorian 1827 Pattern Royal Naval Officers sword.
This example has been rather neglected over the years.
The hilt, of solid regulation form with fully functioning folding guard with plenty of snap. Some distortion to the guard. Gothic decoration and cartouche with crowned, fouled anchor. Lions mane backstrap with finely executed lions head pommel. The grip with reeded ferrule retains most of its shagreen covering, with areas of loss exposing the bare wood, which also has loss, although the twistwire binding remains fully inact. The blade solid in the hilt.
The 29.5 inch single fullered blade bares traces of visible decoration, including a fouled anchor, and has areas of dark staining, pitting, and stabalised corrosion, particuarly towards the blades point. This could be lightly cleaned and left, or polished until the blade is bright and clean.
No Scabbard.
