A very scarce Indian Cavalry Sword By Wilkinson Sword.

Likely part of a small contract or experimental trial run, although there are no records of this pattern in the Wilkinson Archives. This is one of only two examples known to me, the other identical, but in much worse condition, now residing in the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

The sword comprises a steel bowl guard with black japanned interior. The guard is cut with a sword knot and drilled with twin holes for drainage. The grip is of carved hardwood, likely walnut, with a distinctive chequered diamond pattern.

The 36 inch plain single fullered blade with wide ricasso and thick spine. Stamped marking "Wilkinson London". no other visible markings.

Housed in a unique wooden scabbard, the top third covered in leather with frog band, the original frog remaining, some of the leatherwork now absent. The heavy scabbard drag measuring a whopping 24.5 inches.

The sword completely untouched, in good solid condition. It would benefit from  gentle cleaning and preservation.

A unique opportunity for the advanced collector of 19thC Indian Cavalry Swords.
