A very attractive example of a Scottish Officers Broadsword of The Kings Own Scottish Borderers.

It was retailed by "Hawkes & Co, 14 Piccadilly London" The other ricasso containing a proof slug with "P" which would indicate manufacture by Pillin, who is known to have supplied Hawkes with swords. This allows us to date this sword to being produced between 1901-1907.

The double fullered broadsword blade measuring 32.75 inches. The blade with etched decoration, twin vacant panels, with foliage and thistles, and the crowned ER VII cypher. It is further etched with the regimental badges and title of The Kings Own Scottish Borderers.

The hilt is a full 1828 pattern steel basket and domed cruxiform pommel, which can be removed for addition of the cross hilt. Good overall condition, one secure crack to one of the rear side bars, but overall free from misalignment or serious damage. It benefits from having its original scarlet and chamois liner, with the remains of its royal blue outer ribbon. The shagreen grip bound with copper twistwire, and in very good condition.

Housed in its original steel dress scabbard with twin hanging rings and correct canted ball finial. Even patina/staining but free from major dings or dents.

A good, and completely original Edwardian Officers broadsword, which can be narrowed down to a six year period of manufacture.
