A charming Indian Dhal shield, likely early to mid 19thC.
Constructed from thick animal hide, painted, and studded with four large bronze bosses, which hold the twin rear straps in place (one now absent) and measuring approx 15 inches in diameter.
This example is in very good but "grubby" condition, having recently been removed from a large private residence, where it has hung with an assortment of other arms, for many years. Once gently cleaned, it will once again display very well.
