Early 1856 Pattern Bandsmans Sword Devonshire Regiment

£375.00 Approx $473.48, €438.6

A scarce early example of the 1856 pattern Bandsman's sidearm, which may slightly predate the pattern designation. This example regimentally marked to the 1st Battalion Devonshire Regiment.

The regulation brass cruciform hilt with trefoil finials with VR monogram to the centre.

This example featuring a 22 inch slightly curved unfullered single edged blade.

The blade is smartly etched with a cartouche "1st DEV 19". Some areas of old staining, but generally clean and bright. Some movement between the blade and hilt as is common with the pattern. A new leather blade washer may cure the issue.

In its original brass & leather mounted scabbard. The same regimental designation is repeated on the top mount of the scabbard. Overall condition is good, with no shrinkage. Minor scuffs and knocks to the leather, which would benefit from a feed and polish to rejuvinate it. The brass top mount is now lacking its frog stud.

The sword 27 ½ inches overall.

A very good, untouched example of this early type of bandsman's sidearm, with the bonus of carrying the regimental markings, matching to sword and scabbard, which is rare for the period.
