A scarce George V Sandhurst Military College Prize Sword.

This example presented in July 1923, dated within a banner, which reads: "Royal Military College Prize For Drill Gentleman Cadet C.J.Challice"

Challice was comissioned into the South wales Borders on the 30th of August 1923. He later served with the Somaliland Camel Corps, and transferred to the Royal Corps of Signals as a Captain in August 1940.

The regulation 1897 pattern guard guard with distinctive crowned George V cypher, with domed pommel and fully chequered backpiece. The shagreen grip is complete, and retaining the twistwire binding. The plated finish with some wear, to the interior and exterior of the guard, and the pommel. The sword retains its brown leather sword knot.

The 1892 pattern single fullered blade length with a length of 32.5 inches. It is marked at the ricasso "Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd London", and with thier Hexagonal "Best proof" slug with "HW" to the other. It carries thier serial number to the spine, dating this example to 1923.

This example with the aforementioned presentation panel, along with another vacant inscription panel.  Alongside the crowned GV cypher, the blade is well etched with foliate engraving, laurel wreaths and the royal coat of arms. The blade is generally bright and in good condition, the etching remaining clear and legible, with some staining.

The sword is housed in its original brown leather field service scabbard, which is pleasingly good condition, retaining good colour and polish. Fitted with its leather belt frog.

Fairly hard to find these RMC prize swords, especially in good condition, and to officers with an interesting service history.
