A good untouched example, of a VRI 1897 pattern Infantry officers sword, by Mole of Birmingham, makers to the War and India Offices.
1897 pattern infantry officers guard, domed pommel and chequered backpiece, the shagreen with twistwire grip in good order.
The 32.5 inch blade of 1892 pattern, the well etched blade, with makers details to the ricasso, the usual foliate etching, VRI crowned cypher, and bearing Moles serial number to the spine. Some staining, and a roll to the point, both of which could be addressed.
The whole sword would benefit from a gentle clean and general TLC, and priced to reflect this.
Housed in its original steel mounted leather scabbard, bearing a registered design number. The scabbard with a nasty fold to the centre, which could do with strengthening.
The scarcer VRI variation of this short lived pattern, Victoria only being on the throne until January 1901.
