Scarce Wilkinson 1845/95 Infantry Officers Sword

Scarce Wilkinson 1845/95 Infantry Officers Sword

Code: 11487

SOLD

A good example of an 1845 pattern Infantry Officers Sword, which has been upgraded to an 1895 pattern hilt.

One of my favourite combinations, and not all that easy to find. This example has a blade by Wilkinson Sword which dates to January 1879. Unresearched by me.

Likely produced as a pure "service" sword, no frills, for a professional soldier who realised his life may one day depend on his sword. He obviously had a relatively long career, and one can only imagine the campaigns it might have witnessed.

1895 pattern regulation hilt with crowned VR cypher within a cartouche, generally very good. Shagreen bound with silver twistwire generally good, without loss but with some service wear.

The 33 inch, 1845 pattern single fullered blade, by Wilkinson Sword, Pall Mall, London. Plain, fighting blade, showing no signs of decoration, nor ever having any. Signs of service sharpening. The blade very clean and bright.

Housed in a bright steel dress scabbard with twin hanging rings.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
