A Victorian 1827 Pattern Light Infantry Officers Sword.
This example by Wilkinson of Pall Mall, and dating to 1864.
The gothic 1827 pattern guard, with strung bugle within a cartouche, smooth back strap and stepped pommel all have an even coloured patina. The interior has a slightly heavier sale and pepper appearance, both which could be cleaned and polished if desired. The shagreen grip in largely good condition, with some patches of loss, and the upper section nearest the pommel absent. It retains its original twistwire binding.
The single fullered 32.5 inch blade of 1845 pattern, and is the heavier type. Wilkinson makers marking and address at the ricasso, "HW" proof slug to the other side.
The blade is largely clean and bright, and well decorated with the VR Royal cypher of interlocking type, a strung bugle, crown and the standard foliate engraving. It has some small areas of scattered light staining which would likely be improved by a gentle polish. The hilt and blade are solid with no movement.
Housed in its original steel scabbard with twin hanging rings, this with a similar patina to the hilt, and original to the sword.
Serial number to the blades spine. The sword will be accompanied by a digital copy of the Wilkinson sword ledger. The name is indistinct, possibly "Pickford", "Bickford" or possibly Beresford, but the year and type of sword ought to be able to tie down the original owner.
