A very good Victorian Artillery Volunteers Officers Sword.
Regulation three bar Royal Artillery Hilt with stepped pommel and smooth backstrap. The shagreen grips, bound in copper twistwire, are in excellent condtion. The hilt retains its original leather and cord sword knot, which will benefit from a feed and colour. Both hilt and scabbard now have a rich plum coloured patina.
The 32.5 inch single fullered blade is in bright, clean condition. Vacant makers shield to the ricasso. The blade decorated with etched crowns, crossed pennants, field guns and floral decoration, with the words "Volunteer Artillery".
Steel scabbard with twin hanging rings in good condition.
Good untouched condition overall, and would benefit from a gentle clean and polish to bring it back to collectors standard.
