A very good and rare Victorian Calcutta Provincial Police Officers Sword.
This example produced by Harman&Co of Calcutta.
The guard of 1827 pattern rifles form, with crowned "CPP" with the cartouch. Fully chequered backstrap, with plain, stepped pommel. The grip of shagreen bound with copper twistwire, in very good order.
The 32.75 inch single fullered blade marked "Harman&Co Calcutta" at the ricasso, with brass proof slug to the other. This containing the letter "P" which may inciate manufacture by Pillin. The Fully etched blade with twin vacant cartouches, floral decoration, with crowned VRI cypher to one side of the blade, and crowned "CPP" to the other. Good clean condition, with minor areas of staining.
Housed in its polished steel dress scabbard in very good order, with some staining and rust towards the drag.
The only one of these I've encountered, having owned and sold several of the more common "IP" or Indian Police variations.
