SOLD

Victorian Northumberland County Constabulary Police Sword, circa 1857.

The Northumberland County Constabulary was formed in 1857 and continued until 1969 when it was amalgamated. This sword would likely date from the Constabulary's inception. I am aware of two other extant example similarly etched to the NCC.

Brass guard and shagreen grip are in good condition, with no losses. No movement between blade and hilt. The curved, single fullered blade measures 23 inches, and  is etched "Northumberland County Constabulary" along the fuller of the left hand side. Light staining to the blade in places, but generally bright, and would improve with a gentle clean and polish. No visible makers marks.

Complete with brass mounted leather scabbard in solid condition. Some minor scuff, and the movement to the top mount, but generally very good. The hilt mounted safety catch is working perfectly, and still locks the sword into the scabbard.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
