An extremely pleasing 1854 pattern Officers Sword of the Scots Guards, by Wilkinson Sword.
This sword can be accurately dated by the proof number on the spine to November 1890. This is the full size version, as opposed to the more commonly seen piquet weight or levee pattern.
The gothic 1854 pattern Guards Officers hilt of gothic form, bearing the regimental badge of the Scots Guards. The stepped pommel and smooth backstrap with chequered thumb rest in good clean condition. The plated hilt is generally bright and in very good condition, with light mottling to the guards interior. The shagreen grip is complete and in very good condition, with only light wear. The silver twistwire binding remains securely in place.
The 32.75 inch blade with Wilkinson's details to the ricasso, and "HW" proof slug to the other. The polished steel blade, of 1845 pattern is beautifully etched with regimental battle honours, up to and including Suakin 1885. It also bears the crowned VR cypher, and the Scots Guards regimental badge. The blade is generally bright, and retains a high degree of its original polish, alongside some areas of light, minor staining.
Housed in its original steel dress scabbard with twin hanging rings.
A very good and lightly carried example which would suit a discerning collector, or even a serving officer.
