An extremely good example of a scarce 1871 pattern Martini-Henry rifle cutlass bayonet.
Only around 50,700 of these 1871 pattern cutlass bayonet were produced.
This example is dated October 1878 (10.78) to the ricasso, along with various inspection marks, WD and broad arrow, and the makers mark of the knights head of Weyersberg, as the majority of these cutlass bayonets were outsourced to Solingen.
The blade is in good condition and has been lightly service sharpened and carries some light edge knicks.
The whole bayonet is just as you'd want to find it, slightly grubby, with light rust, but it will clean up extremely well with a little time and paitience.
Functioning locking catch is in good working order.
The cutlass bayonet is complete with its black leather scabbard with steel locket and chape.
