WW1 Royal Engineers Officers Sword By Wilkinson

Code: 12011

SOLD

A good, untouched 1897 pattern Royal Engineers Officers Sword.

This example by Wilkinson Sword, Pall Mall, London, and can be dated to late 1915 by the proof number on the spine.

The regulation 1897 pattern hilt with crowned GVR cypher. Chequered backpiece, shagreen grip free from loss although it does carry service wear, and bound with silver twistwire.

The single fullered 32.5 inch blade with Wilkinson's details to one ricasso, and their hexagonal "best quality" proof slug to the other. The blade fully etched with the vacant panels, along with the feathered lighting bolts and "Royal Engineers", alongside the standard floral engraving, royal coat of arms, and crowned GVR cypher. The blade is worn in places, most noticeable at the ricaaso, and has a dull appearance. It would benefit greatly from a good clean and polish.

Some light old staining, generally good untouched condition overall.

Housed in its steel dress scabbard, with twin hanging rings. Wear to the plating on the scabbard, matching that on he hilt.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched. Please send this at the time of ordering, to prevent unnecessary delay in your order being dispatched.
