Whitworth Rifle Bayonet In Scabbard

Whitworth Rifle Bayonet In Scabbard

Code: 11341

SOLD

An unotuched ordnance marked example of the scarce bayonet for the 1863 Whitworth Rifle. One of around 8000 manufactured. Around 1000 rifles and bayonets were sold to the Confederacy during the American Civil War.

Near identical to the 1856 Enfield bayonet, with the exception of the circular mortice slot. Chequered leather slab grips, yataghan type single fullered blade. Faint issue markings crowned VR, etc.

Housed in its orginal steel mounted leather scabbard.

Would benefit from a thorough clean, the catch seized. Once cleaned it would make it a very respectable example.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
