Whitworth Rifle Bayonet In Scabbard
An unotuched ordnance marked example of this scarce bayonet for the 1863 Whitworth Rifle. One of 8000 manufactured. Around 1000 rifles and bayonets were sold to the Confederacy during the American Civil War.
Near identical to the 1856 Enfield bayonet, with the exception of the circular mortice slot. Chequered leather slab grips, yataghan type single fullered blade. Issue markings to both ricasso's and spine, including crowned VR, etc.
Housed in its original steel mounted leather scabbard.
Would benefit from a thorough clean. Once cleaned it would make it a very respectable example.
