Signed Photograph Kitchener Of Khartoum Circa 1898

A superb signed photograph of Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener (1850-1916)

A similar example is held by the Royal Collection Trust, and can be seen HERE.

This example has been signed "Kitchener Of Khartoum" which coupled with the date the photograph was taken, allows us to date this to 1898, after he was created Baron Kitchener of Khartoum, but before he was appointed chief of staff to Field Marshal Lord Roberts during the Boer War.

Bearing the photographers embossed stamp "Bassano, Copyright" to lower left corner.

Alexander Bassano's London Photography studio catered to the great and the good of the Victorian era, from Queen Victoria downwards. His page at the National Portait Gallery Website can be seen HERE.

Overall good condition, previously framed, with signs of the original mount to the outer edges of the board. Good clean image, and correct signature. Some old pencil marks to the reverse.
