A good and attributable Fairbairn Sykes 3rd Pattern Commando Knife.

This 3rd pattern carries a pommel inspection marking of "3" It has a black painted finish to both hilt and blade, though now worn in places. It remains untouched since it was found, so a gentle clean would bring out the best in it.

It has a blade length of just under 7 inches. The blade shows service sharpening, and has some old rust.

The sheath is a correct wartime produced example, in good condition. The original elastic retaining strap has broken at the centre.

Named to the rear of the belt strap "Pte R. Maslen 14579849 The Black Watch."

Private Maslen served with the 5th Battalion, and was recorded as being wounded on the 12th of September 1944 (casualty list number 1549)

Overall a very respectable example, worthy of further research.
