A good example of a Great War period 1897 Pattern Infantry Officers Sword.

This example produced by Fenton Brothers Ltd of Sheffield. "Sword Cutlers to the War Office".

This is probably the most iconic example of the war time cutlery trade swords, produced in quantity to satisfy the large number of new officers needed at the front during WW1.

The regulation 1897 pattern hilt with George V crowned royal cypher. The hilt of a nickel allow which is now dull, but which should respond very well to a gentle polish. Good shagreen grips, bound with twistwire.

The 32.5 inch single fullered blade etched with Fenton's details to the ricasso, and the standard floral decoration and George V crowned cypher. The blade has some light staining, but all in all is quite pleasing. The hilt and blade are firm, with no movement.

Housed in its original Sam Brown field service leather scabbard. The scabbard in good condition, with some minor scuff/marks, It would benefit from a feed/polish.
