Argyll And Sutherland Highlanders Pipers Dirk

Argyll And Sutherland Highlanders Pipers Dirk

Code: 11571

SOLD

This is the MK III Pipers dirk, without the scallopped back edge.

Unfortunately it was stuck in its scabbard when it came to me. The blade has obviously not been stored in ideal conditions, and has obviously been heavily cleaned in the past, after becoming exposed to moisture at some point in its life.

However, the wear is even and consistant, there are no serious or deep pits, and the blade could be polished and improved if so desired. Interestingly it has been service sharpened, and retains a keen edge.

Blade length 12 inches, 17.25 inches overall.

Regimentally marked to the rear of the bottom mount "1. A+SH 74" the ferrule marked "P/9" so issued to Piper no 9, 1st battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders.

Housed in its original white metal mounted scabbard. The dirk stops a few millimeters short of sheathing fully. I suspect dirt or part of the wooden liner is preventing this, and will need to be removed.

A rare and expensive dirk if it weren't for the issues outlined above. But the real thing, in a sea of modern copies, which will display well.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
