Georgian Naval Dirk

SOLD

A very sweet example of a Georgian Naval Dirk, circa 1800.

Likely French, this example has a utilitarian 5.5 inch blade blade of diamond section, showing signs of sharpening. It has a faceted square cross guard with subtle line decoration, and a dark hardwood grip, possible of ebony, partially reeded. It is has a brass pommel plate with copper washer decorated like a starburst. The dagger overall is 9.5 inches.

The dagger is housed in a brass scabbard decorated with an anchor and floral swags. It has twin hanging rings mounted on copper bands. The end of the scabbard is dented and slightly misshapen, but no holes or splits.

A very elegant little weapon which would have been deadly at close quarters, this example showing signs of sharpening and use.

Strictly over 18's only. Photo ID will be required before this item can be dispatched.
