An elegant Georgian period officers Dirk, circa 1795.
Not an overly extravagent example, but none the less quite a refined. With an ebony grip, scrolled brass crossguard, ferrule and reeded cushion pommel.
The substantial 15 inch blade of double edged stilleto type, with a short central fuller. This shows signs of sharpening to both cutting edges, and has been cleaned bright at some point, now with areas of dark staining, and old corrosion. The blades point now slightly rounded in appearance. There may be traces of a makers name in the fullers, which may just be my old eyes playing tricks, but worth investigating.
Quite likely to have been carried by a junior naval officer, but may just have easily belonged to an Artilleryman.
No movement between blade and hilt, the blade with a very slight bend.
