Early Mk1 Kukri

Code: 12153

£525.00 Approx $695.36, €617.65

This example has had its official markings removed, likely when it was brought back as a souviner. This is quite common in my experience, I would say at least 50/60% I've handled were removed. I suspect this is quite an early example, possibly a Quetta made example, judging by the "Stupa" kaudi and faint remains of this stamp are on the spine.

13.25 inch blade, the grip 4.5 inches including the bolster. The blade has been well polished/cleaned but retains its hardness test dot markings. The blade has been heavily sharpened in the past, and has some edge knicks.

The wooden grip of "Fat handle" type, again denoting earlier production. There are chips to the heel of the pommel, and a split, although the hilt remains solid. The grip retained by the correct hidden nut.

Production of this type of kukri ceased in 1915, in favour of the MK II.

Housed in the correct scabbard this example being constructed of leather over wood, with brass chape. I cannot see any maker marks to the reverse, but these may become apparent after a feed and polish. There are unit markings to the front, which could again be brought out. Old marks, scuffs, damage, and the beginning of a split, but still a solid and original scabbard.

A good example of a scarce and desirable WW1 period kukri.
