A charming late 19thC Inkwell, in the form of an artillery shell, and the first of its type which I have encountered.
The skillfully crafted brass body with painted decoration has a button which when pressed allows the hinged lid to fold back, revealing a glass inset inkwell. A typical late Victorian novelty which would have appealed to a travelling writer, or the military officer on campaign.
Measuring 2.5 inches tall.
