A superb presentation table lighter, in the form of a grenade.
The lighter itself is in good condition, and would orignally have been silver plated. Unfortunately it has had rather a boisterious time being passed around the officers mess, and the body now carries several dings/dents. Almost all of the original silver plate is now absent, revealing an attractive bronze coloured body. There is a makers marking to the base, which looks like "Thornhill&Co, 144 New Bond Street S.W. London.
Thornhill&Co were reknowned cutlers, silversmiths and purveyors of objects of virtue to the genrty, and held Royal Warrants to Queen Victoria and Edward VII. The company dissolved in 1912.
Measuring 3 inches tall.
It would be worthwhile restoring this little gem, as in good condition they can command healthy sums.
